Hang in there, Vince! I don't know about your motorhome mpg, but last year gas cost was close to $1 / mile for us. Painful, but there's no better way
to spend a race weekend in my book.

New engine in FF | #304 | ||
|
Regarding your efforts to get a new engine in S2, you might want to watch how Honda gets their new engine approved in FF. Initially releasing the concept to
the membership in July, it will be approved for 2010.

if i'm correct in understanding the situation in FF, their new engine gets approval for 2010, but we can't get our engine proposal through the crb
until we put an engine in a car so they can compare data? or did someone put a Fit engine in their ford for testing? what am i missing?

Marc,
1. It has not been the subject of any action by the CRB. Any action by the CRB will be announced. Any other remarks are pure speculation. 2. It has extensive in car, on track testing. Somewhere about the 200 mile mark prior to the last weekend at Road America where the car was driven again. 3. It has extensive dyno testing. Sincerely, D. Jansen |

thanks... | #308 | ||

thanks, dave for the clarification. good to know. i hope you understand my frustration at having to jump through hoops as an individual club member, that a
manufacturer with a very heavily vested interest is much more able to do, both from a financial and a logistical standpoint. when a proposal from a member
seems to encounter larger hurdles than a manufacturer it appears the membership has little recourse other than wait for a fast track notification. i too have
vested interest in a new engine for MY class, however, i don't have a financial incentive to push the issue. i simply want a modern power plant to makethe
class more attravctive to others, and what matt has proposed is a reasonable option, which should be offered to the members for debate. the details can be
argued ad nauseum, but we fiddle while rome burns. i've said it before, and i'll say it again...putting an engine in a car to prove aparticular set of
data does nothing in my opinion. the dyno and the engine builders are in the best position to set parameters based on driver input. let the drivers in the
class decide if a new engine is warranted based on logical arguments, not the wherewithal of the various boards that deem it important to give their blessing
to any rule change. i appreciate your interest in the class, but to this point i have seen very little support to help the us increase interest in sports 2000
in scca.

You guys really need this just as FF needs a new engine. I hope this passes on both accounts.

Honda funded the design and installation of their Fit engine into a Swift FF, tested the car extensively, tested the engine extensively on Quicksilver's
dyno.
They have offered some technical advice to race car manufacturers who might wish to design for the engine . The majority of FF participants are very excited and positive about the whole thing. There is hope it will draw new, younger people into the class.

S2 future | #311 | ||
|
I think that was always the problem getting the Duratec into S2 in the US. There was never one person or one body pushing it
through. Although the silent majority were behind the move it was the vocal minority that ruled the day.
FF have realized to attract new young blood you must have a modern package, we have shown it works. Although we revitalized the
Pinto S2 scene in the UK and although we had full grids it was not until we introduced the "modern" S2 car did the manufacturers come in followed
by new competitors both young and old.
Trying to bring in change using an open totally democratic system using a forum as the mouth piece has proved the classic saying
"You cant please all the people all the time" is true! The end result is nothing gets done.
In the meantime sit back and watch FF in the US increase in popularity as it did in the UK when they introduced the modern engine
a couple of years ago.
Sports 2000 as a current formula needs you guys to come on board so we can keep it going for another 30 years. We have the
manufacturers, we have the modern well tried and tested engine..... perhaps we could find an importer of the new March that could help to push things
forward....
I only suggest an importer as then you will have at least a car to demonstrate to competitors as well as having something
tangible to jump through all the hoops the SCCA throw up.
Matt and Tony have done a great job getting this far but I bet they would have got everything through by now with a bit of
manufacturer backing.
I wish you luck as S2 needs to succeed rather than become just a vintage formula.
There is no future without NEW cars and NEW blood.
That is a fact that cannot be disputed...................
