I spent the weekend (without car) at the races in Buttonwillow. It was a great weekend of racing! Just a couple of cars shy of the RunOff's car count and
what would have to be equal or better racing.
Congratulations to David Ferguson and Joe Moran for two of the most hard earned wins I remember ever seeing. Both races had the top four positions being challenged every lap of both races. The slightest mistake meant you lost the position. The highlight has to be the doorhandle to doorhandle pass by Joe over the then leading John Fuji. John had the slightest bobble at the tracks bus-stop exit (site of a grenading Formula Mazada's motor a couple laps prior) and Joe was able to keep the hammer down and roll up alongside to go side-by-side around the 135MPH riverside corner. The left "kink" heading up to "Phil Hill" was Fuji's undoing as drifting MUST occur exiting that kink and there just was not enough room for both cars. Fuji dropped wheels and Moran held to complete the pass..... oh... and that was on the LAST LAP. sweeet......
Honorable mentions to Doug Ota for the Saturday Pole position.... Matt Ferguson for finishing his competion requirements and becoming a lisenced Regional Driver.... Everyone else for bringing strong running Sports 2000 cars to the event!....and The Allison camp for continuing the DELICIOUS tradition of providing a Saturday nite chili feed.
The only thing that would have made the event better for me would have been piloting a car in the BEST Bang for the BUCK racing group.
