Pi-C dash, no RPM

Posts: 15 06/15/08 12:16:18	Tags : None I was hoping to get this corrected before leaving for the Sprints: '07 Yamaha R1 with Pi-C dash, pulling RPM off a coil. Everything on the dash works except RPM, which reads zero. The leds work because the readout on screen B works correctly. There is a signal at the dash connector. Is there an internal fuse of some sort that could be replaced? Is the dash NFG? Something else I can check? Mike Beauchamp www.gyrodynamics.net

Posts: 2155 06/16/08 22:06:34	Are you using an RPM box with the signal from the coil (LT type)? I don't believe the C-Dash can accept a 12V coil signal directly. The C-Dash Users Manual shows that an ECU RPM output can be used directly, but that coil triggers should use the RPM box. If that's all OK, then is the configuration setup so the "Type" is SO (Stand alOne?) or S1 (Sys1 attached). If it's set to one of the ECU options, then it may be expecting an RPM signal in the data stream (types _BE and PEZTEL). We can send you the manual in PDF form if you don't have it.

Posts: 16 06/18/08 06:40:36	No RPM box. We had RPM on the '98 using the 'tach output'. When using the same wire on the '07 there was no RPM, so I switched it to a coil wire. We started it, read RPM, shut it off. We turned ignition back on and then it went to 67000 and never had RPM again. Mike Beauchamp www.gyrodynamics.net

Posts: 2158 06/18/08 08:35:37	It does sound like you may have damaged the C-Dash with coil signals. My recommendation would be to try an RPM box, and get your C-Dash checked out by Pi Research in Indy.
