Great weather and a pretty good turnout for the New S2 Series! 9 entrants made S2000 the largest class in the 27 car Wings 'n Things Group.
That's nine entrants, even with many S2 regulars missing this event due to unfortunate circumstance (myself & Sterling Ellsworth) or last minute
glitches (Gary Holcomb, Rob Thompson). That's a solid 13 possible with the
"shoulda'/woulda'/coulda'" drivers. Thirteen entrants would be really fun if we can pull it off
for the October race. Add the occasionally seen Fujii, Rubel, Michaels, Chouloucas, and Colombotos to the mix and you
can see that 18 entrants is a very real possibility in the Fall…..with more cars (Keating, Luft, Conrad, Dellinger, Arnold) still parked all over the state.
WE CAN DO THIS PEOPLE!....STEPENWOLF SEZ "GIT YOUR MOTOR RUNNIN'…."
Maybe we can do the betting thing in October and have a purse again?....opinions on that??
Congratulations to the people who did show up and race:
Kathy Allison
Jeff Anderson
David Ferguson
Ted Guenther
Bob Lovenson
Joe Moran
John Ostland
Doug Ota
Wayne Smith
Current S2 drivers seen in the paddock:
Bruce Allison
Frank Arnold

Somebody needs to post about Saturday's race, as my tiny brain remembers little other than David Ferguson winning
from pole with Doug Ota in 2nd (Doug beat Ferg by .03 sec to get fastest race lap), Joe Moran
3rd, Bob Lovenson 4th, Kathy Allison 5th, Ted Guenther 6th and Jeff Anderson 7th. Ostland left the asphalt and destroyed a nose while Wayne Smith was taken out in a Lap 1, Turn 1 cluster**** that brought out a
double yellow until the debris was cleared. That night both Wayne and John procured new noses and Wayne bummed a
control arm from my trailer, so they were up and running on Sunday.
Sunday's race found Ferguson on the pole again with a blistering 1.50.8 (He also ran fastest race lap
Sunday). Moran was next with Ota and Ostland behind him. This race started off
with Nancy James' WF01 DSR catching fire big time on the backstraight and, while doused very quickly by the turn station, a rare black flag was thrown to
get fire and rescue equipment to her promptly. After the restart the crowd was treated to a good S2000 show, with
battles throughout the field. Ferguson & Moran nose to tail, followed by Ota and Ostland nose to tail, followed by
Guenther and Lovenson nose to tail. This went on for several laps until Ferguson spun, recovering very quickly and only
losing 2 or 3 places. Joe was now in the lead, but Ota started to pull away from Ostland and began to bridge the gap to
the front. Ferg spun again, this time in the hairpin & completely off the track.
He had to watch most of the field pass before he could safely re-enter. Meanwhile Lovenson had gotten ahead of
Guenther and they were nose to gearbox again! Up at the front Ota charged down the main straight and stuck his nose in
while Joe entered Sunrise turn. They went through and exited in lockstep…..side by side through the short chute to the
"A" turn and went into that compound turn still sidepod to sidepod! At the exit it was Ota in the lead, which
he extended and kept until the checkered flag.
Final result for Sunday was Ota, Moran, Ostland, Lovenson, Ferguson, Guenther, and Allison. Jeff Anderson DNF'd with a clutch issue and Wayne Smith's repairs came undone, finishing his race early.
Well done everyone....see you all in October!
